Manhattan

Manhattan

๐Ÿฅ„ Stir ๐Ÿฅƒ Manhattan (or nick&nora) ๐Ÿน ~18.6% ABV v1

Ingredients

  • Rye Whiskey 2 oz
  • Sweet Vermouth 1/2 oz
  • Dry Vermouth 1/2 oz
  • Angostura Bitters 1 dashes
  • Bitter Truth Aromatic Bitters 1 dashes

Garnish: Lemon Twist

Notes

The perfect aperitivo. Equal parts gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth, stirred and served over ice. Simple, bitter, beautiful.

Method

  1. Add all ingredients to a mixing glass with ice
  2. Stir until well-chilled
  3. Strain over a Nick&Nora glass (there is apperently a dedicated Manhattan glass ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ)
  4. Express lemon twist, then drop it in

Notes

This recipe I followed has half parts dry and sweet vermouth instead of going full sweet. I liked this approach it gives the funkiness of the rye more attention.

The recipe also called for Orange Bitters and optional Bergomot Bitters, and I run out of orange bitters, I would like to try the Bergamot Bitters as well sounds right in my alley as a huge fan of Italicus. I substituted Bitter Truth Aromatic Bitters which plays well with the funkiness of the rye.

Variations to Try

  • Version with Orange and Bergamot Bitters not sure if they will play well with Bitter Truth Aromatic Bitters might cause a muddy avalanche

  • I should try different Ryes I differ in their content of rye vs corn
